This painting is of my mother in 1984 when she was fitted with the back brace.

“This was especially made to fit me in 1984 after having a spinal fusion. It was worn for several months as the fusion healed. The bone for the fusion was taken from my pelvis. After several months one side failed to fuse. The surgeons decided on a new way of thinking that suggested that the bones required friction. Therefore my brace was removed, and healing took place.“
